The Costume Designers Guild Awards 2013

The Costume Designers Guild Awards, which celebrate excellence in film, television and commercial costume design, were announced Wednesday. According to its website, “the Costume Designers Guild represents Costume Designers, Assistant Costume Designers and Costume Illustrators working at the highest levels of skill and expertise in motion pictures, television and commercials.”  Click here for more information about the Costume Designers Guild. The awards were presented on February 22, 2014. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 2014

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) began with Louis B. Mayer, head of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). Mayer gathered up a group of thirty-six of the most influential people involved in the film industry and invited them to a formal banquet at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on January 11, 1927. The Academy is now composed of almost 6,000 motion picture professionals.

The Denver Film Critics Society Awards 2013

The Denver Film Critics Society (DFCS) announced its award nominees with ’12 Years a Slave’ leading the awards season race with seven nominations.

According to its website, DFCS was “formed to provide the greater Denver area a unified and diverse opinion on film and its industry, DFCS is dedicated to not only recognize excellence in cinema, but also promote Colorado within the industry. Representing all sectors in media, including print, radio, television and online outlets, DFCS provides a platform for national and international recognition for achievements in film through its presentation of its annual awards.” DFCS will announce the winners January 13, 2014.

The British Academy Film Awards 2014

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominees for the British Academy Film Awards for 2014. According to their website, “The British Academy of Film and Television Arts supports, promotes and develops the art forms of the moving image – film, television and video games – by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Rising Star Award

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominees for the 2014 EE Rising Star Award. Actors and actresses who have “demonstrated exceptional talent” and are “destined to be bright stars in the future of cinema” are nominated each year since 2006. Previous honorees have included James McAvoy, Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf, Noel Clarke, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy, Adam Deacon and Juno Temple.
