The Cannes 2014 Film Festival competition awards for the 67th Annual Festival de Cannes were announced Saturday May 24th, 2014 at their awards closing ceremony at the Lumiere Theater in Cannes. According to the Festival de Cannes description, the mission of the Festival de Cannes is “to draw attention to and raise the profile of films with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level.”

Cannes Film Festival Un Certain Regard 2014

The Un Certain Regard competition is a section of the Cannes Film Festival’s official selection. It is run at the salle Debussy, parallel to the competition for the Palme d’Or and honors original and different works. The winners of the Un Certain Regard (A Particular Outlook) segment of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival were announced today, May 23, 2014. Twenty films representing 23 different countries, with seven of the works being first films, were presented in the Un Certain Regard 2014 competition. Jury president Pablo Trapero said:

The 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival has released the official poster for this year’s festival designed by Hervé Chigioni. Based on the image in the final moments of this clip from Federico Fellini’s “8½,” Guido (Marcello Mastroianni) is searching his imagination for his next opening scene and peers over the top of his sunglasses and envisions the beautiful Claudia Cardinale gliding toward him. The image from the film is the basis for the official poster of the 67th Cannes Film Festival.

Academy Award® Ellen Celebrity Selfie Sets Record

It goes without saying that everyone most likely knows that the Academy Award® Ellen Celebrity Selfie  has set a new record, but for those who missed the Oscar® Award ceremony…Ellen DeGeneres spent the better portion of the evening in the audience serving pizza and snide-snarky remarks. At one point, Ellen spontaneously (it was actually pre-planned as part of the sponsor agreement to promote Samsung’s Note 3) gathered together a group of A-listers and snapped a selfie. During the next hour, it crashed Twitters network as a result of the volume, breaking the prior record of re-tweets held by President Barack Obama’s election night victory photo – re-tweeted 777, 000 times.
