Behind the Camera
Its not just about technology and equipment…working behind the camera requires creative vision and discipline along with numerous other talents, not just the newest whiz bang gizmos. The possibilities are virtually limitless considering the power and precision of modern digital equipment…not to mention the falling price of very capable equipment…none of which will make great results if the person behind the camera doesn’t have the chops to get them.
Behind the Camera, Multiple Talents
Great results are the culmination of your creative talent, vision, patience, control and understanding of the technology. With the fast-paced evolution of post-production software environments, the post production process has been leveraged with control so granular that entirely new style, editing, imagery and effects can creatively emerge using relatively inexpensive software.
Filmmakers ‘see’ and envision their result as a combination of the tone and intent of a script, usually long before they are ever behind the camera shooting. And of course, they are usually working with others to ensure that the ‘vision’ of the writer and the story are told. Even so, filmmakers are also watching for what the scene could become without their preconceived vision of it. And of course everything else is elemental…actors, lighting, sound, set design, effects…everything.
“I love the incredible variety of demands directing makes on you, from the entrepreneur to the hustler to the deal-maker to the writer; to directing actors and the camera and working with music, sound, marketing and promotion. It uses so many sides of your brain. ” -Tom Hooper

“Perhaps it sounds ridiculous, but the best thing that young filmmakers should do is to get hold of a camera and some film and make a movie of any kind at all.” -Stanley Kubrick
