Film Music Nominees & Winners of 2013

We began adding the song or score to many of the 2013 film previews. That led to compiling this list of film music that has already been recognized this awards season as a nominee or winner for best score, composer or song…you can read the awards seasons updates here.

Rather than limit the list to only the awards organizations nominees or winners, we have also included composer’s or performer’s music recognized by other notable online organizations that publish yearly ‘best of’ polls or votes for the film music category.

There are many films that might not get ‘awards’, but they may have individual elements that really stand out…like the music. We’ll add more to the list in the coming weeks.

Cannes 2015 Film Festival Official Competition Selections

The Cannes 2015 Film Festival competition has announced the films for the 68th Annual Festival de Cannes today. The Press Conference for the 68th Festival de Cannes, at which the 2015 Official Selection was announced, was held on Thursday 16th April at 11:00 am in Paris. According to the Festival de Cannes description, the mission of the Festival de Cannes is “to draw attention to and raise the profile of films with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level.”

2015 Academy Awards Nominations and Winners

Actor Chris Pine, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, and directors Alfonso Cuarón and J.J. Abrams announced the 2015 Academy Awards nominations in all 24 Oscar® categories at a special two-part live news conference at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Winners will announced at the annual award ceremonies February 22nd, 2015 7PM ET, 4PM PST…winners are indicated in bold.

The 2015 Independent Spirit Awards Winners

The 2015 Spirit Awards celebrate the spirit of independent film and filmmakers, presented by Film Independent, a non-profit organization dedicated to the art of independent filmmaking. Its voting members include filmmakers, film industry leaders, past Spirit Award nominees and winners, and active members. Founded in 1984, the Spirit Awards are the first event to honor independent film exclusively and the premier awards event for the independent film community. The 30th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards will be hosted by Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell.

The EE British Academy BAFTA Film Awards 2015

The EE British Academy BAFTA Film Awards announced the winners for the BAFTA Film Awards 2015. According to their website, “The British Academy of Film and Television Arts supports, promotes and develops the art forms of the moving image – film, television and video games – by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is proud of its expert membership of approximately 6,500 individuals in the UK and the US and of its vast collective experience across film, television and games. BAFTA identifies, rewards and celebrates excellence at its internationally-renowned, annual awards ceremonies.”
