Black Magic’s DaVinci Resolve 11 Color & Editing Updates

Black Magic announced major editing interface redesign and additions to the feature list of its flagship grading software DaVinci Resolve 11 earlier this year at the yearly NAB show in April. Although best recognized and regarded as one of the most advanced color grading and correction platforms used to create Hollywood-style color effects including Skyfall, Les Miserables, and Zero Dark Thirty, it now has over 100 new features, most of which are editing features. From the Davinci Resolve introduction:

DaVinci Resolve 11 combines the world’s most advanced color corrector with professional multi-track editing, so now you can edit, color correct, finish and deliver all from one system! DaVinci Resolve 11 is completely scalable and resolution independent so it can be used on set, in a small studio or integrated into the largest Hollywood production pipeline! Only DaVinci Resolve features the creative tools, compatibility, speed and legendary image quality you need to manage your entire workflow, which is why it is the number one solution used on Hollywood feature films.

A few of the most remarkable new features:

Automatic color matching feature. Simply place the color matching box over the box of your professional color chart and watch as DaVinci resolve creates a baseline color correction. This feature saves a lot of time for those of us who normally have to map the colors by hand.

DaVinci Resolve also has built-in camera tracking and image stabilization making it easier to get a cinematic look. While most major editing softwares already incorporate this feature we will be interested to see how well it works.

Collaborative workflow that lets multiple people work together on the same timeline at the same time. Editing tools are context sensitive…that means DaVinci Resolve automatically knows how you want to trim based on the position of the mouse.

Now the DaVinci Resolve 11 Beta is available for download – including the free DaVinci Resolve 11 Lite version –  at the Black Magic Design website on the DaVinci Resolve page.
